Causes of Asthma

3rd August - Submitted by asthmaallergy

Throughout life our bodies are exposed to a very large amount of substances and microscopic bacteria and viruses which can be very harmful to us.

Luckily our bodies have been equipped with our immune systems.

Usually our immune system is able to detect and tell the difference between the harmful and non-harmful substances, but sometimes the body mistakenly targets things which are not harmful.

When your body targets something that is not really harming you, it produces a certain type of antibody which then causes an allergic response to happen, such as…

  • an asthma attack
  • a skin reaction
  • sinusitis
  • itchy eyes
  • migraines

…and also sometimes abnormal bowel functions such as…

  • severe cramping
  • bloating
  • gas
  • diarrhoea

I want you to realise that these things are normal - they are your body responding to something it sees as a threat.

I help you discover what it is that is causing your body to do these things, and then help you to deal with it so your health goes back to a nice, happy ‘normal’.

Common triggers of asthma can be…

  • colds and flus
  • candida
  • certain seasonal pollens in the air
  • dust and dust mites
  • moulds
  • chemicals and food additives
  • cigarette smoke
  • perfumes
  • animals such as cats
  • exercise
  • cold weather
  • stress and trauma
  • food
  • certain drugs

From the list, you can see that even everyday, ‘normal’, safe things can be the trigger for your symptoms.

For example, something as simple as cold weather! Or a perfume floating in the air at a supermarket.

Because the cause of the problem is sometimes so simple and ordinary, it can be difficult to ‘see the pattern’ that is causing your asthma or allergy reactions.

Even then, it can be difficult to know what to do about it.

But I’ve helped so many people over the years with these exact issues, that together you and I should be able to figure out exactly what is going on in your situation, and how to heal it.

Differences between children and adults

Children and adults usually have different triggers and different responses towards asthma.

Children tend to recover and strengthen themselves quickly after a trigger has been removed, whereas an adult may take longer if a lot of damage has been done in the past.

Adults tend to be more susceptible to severe and sudden “attacks”, as over the years an adult has been exposed to more dangerous pollutants such as cigarette smoke, chemical fumes, certain foods, etc.

Children, on the other hand, are monitored closely by adults, and the build up to an attack is usually noticed before it becomes severe.

In either case, it is important that the issue be addressed and ‘handled’ as quickly as possible.

Multiple symptoms

Most people who have asthma usually have some signs of an allergic response such as hayfever and chronic sinusitis.

Usually (and unfortunately) most children with asthma tend to get eczema as well.

This particular type of inflammation affects both the lungs and the skin.

Often there will be a family history of other allergies such as eczema, chronic sinusitis, certain sensitivities to foods, chemicals and drugs.

With all this to consider no wonder people feel so helpless!
